In Ayurveda, it’s the strength of the Agni (digestive fire) that is at the core of how a Vaidya (Ayurvedic Doctors) will treat a disease. In fact, Ayurveda knew thousands of years ago that all diseases begin due to an imbalance in the gut microbiome and the Vaidyas were using spices like cardamom, coriander, cumin, ginger, fennel and turmeric to prevent disease and maintain a healthy Agni.
The spices chosen for this collection are used in everyday recipes like soups, stews, rice dishes, meats and you can even use the ginger, fennel or turmeric alone to make lattes and teas. For example, coriander, cumin, cardamom and fennel, brewed in equal parts, is a classic digestif and tea to sip warm throughout the day (drinking warm water for healthy gut, not cold, is highly encouraged in Ayurveda). Fennel seed is best chewed after a meal and ginger is most beneficial to take before one. However please avoid initially being too rigid with your spices. What is most important is that you have fun and use them to find your favorite combinations and how you like using them in your everyday dishes and warm drinks.
